Speakers for the sessions:
Dr Roy Hamilton -
Dr. Roy Hamilton is an experienced General Practitioner with a specialist interest in diabetes and cardio-metabolic health. He is also an academic, trainer, presenter and research lead. Dr. Hamilton's research interests include diabetes, physical activity, sedentary behaviour and cardio-metabolic health. He holds a Master of Science degree in diabetes, which he achieved with distinction.
Dr Hamilton is very proud to be an Associate Clinical Teacher at The University of Leicester Diabetes Research Centre. In 2024, he was honoured to be selected as a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion and is passionate about tackling inequalities in healthcare.
Outside of his professional life Dr. Hamilton enjoys regular exercise, surfing, playing guitar, yoga, meditation, riding his motorcycles and travelling in his VW camper van.
Dr Olwen Wright -
Olwen grew up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. In 1994 she qualified in Medicine from Edinburgh University with an additional BSc in Medical Microbiology. After completing a medical rotation in Dundee, she worked in Jersey as General Medical Registrar, then ITU at the Queen Elizabeth before moving to General Practice.
She has been a Partner at Spring Gardens Worcester since 2002 and a GP Trainer for 20 years. In 2015 she completed the Triumvirate Leadership programme to establish an ANP service at the practice, acting as an Educational supervisor for her Practice Nurse to complete her MSc. Olwen is practice lead for Diabetes but enjoys managing medical complexity. Recently she is part of a team of Multi-Professional Educators with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub.
Outside of work she enjoys travel, strength training and getting involved with her daughters’ climate change ideas.
