Mental Health in General Practice : An Introductory Series for Primary Care Clinicians

Join us as we navigate our way through some of the more common mental health presentations that we see in General Practice.  During these 6 interactive sessions, led by Dr Steph Manton and Dr Olwen Wright, GP Multi-Professional Educators with the Training Hub, you will be taken through the following topics:

Session 1 :       Low mood and depression – Dr Steph Manton

Session 2 :      Understanding suicide and self-harm – Dr Olwen Wright

                                Friday the 11th of April from 13:00 - 14:00

Session 3 :       The anxieties – Dr Steph Manton

                                Friday the 25th of April from 13:00 - 14:00

Session 4 :     The psychoses, bipolar disorder and the acutely disturbed patient  –                              Dr Steph Manton

                                   Friday the 2nd of May from 13:00 - 14:00

 Session 5:      Mental health in older people – Dr Steph Manton

                                    Friday the 9th of May from 13:00 - 14:00

 Session 6:      Mental health in children and young people – Dr Steph Manton

                                    Friday the 16th of May from 13:00 - 14:00

This programme is suitable for all Healthcare Clinicians working in Primary Care across Herefordshire and Worcestershire, who may be directly or indirectly involved with patients with mental health symptoms.  

The sessions are designed to be undertaken as a series.

 These sessions are fully funded.

Speakers for the session:

Dr Steph Manton MBChB DCH DFSRH DRCOG MRCGP PGCert MedEd a GP Multi-Professional Educator for Herefordshire & Worcestershire Training Hub

Dr Steph Manton has been a GP in Worcestershire since 2009.  Having completed her medical degree and GP training in Manchester and the North West, she relocated back to her home county with her GP husband.  She currently works part-time in a busy Worcester City practice and spends the other half of her week working as a GP Mentor and as a GP Multi-Professional Educator for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub.  She has particular interests in Menopause Care, Pediatrics and Medical Education.  She lives in rural Worcestershire with her husband and two children.  In her spare time, she can be found enjoying the great outdoors; either walking, running or cycling.

Dr Olwen Wright

Olwen grew up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles.  In 1994 she qualified in Medicine  from Edinburgh University with an additional BSc in Medical Microbiology . After completing a medical rotation in Dundee .She worked in Jersey as General Medical Registrar, then ITU at the Queen Elizabeth before  moving to General Practice.

She has been a Partner at Spring Gardens Worcester since 2002 and  a GP Trainer  for 18 years. In  2015  she completed the Triumvirate Leadership programme to establish an ANP service at the practice, acting as an Educational supervisor for her Practice Nurse to complete her MSc. Olwen is practice lead for Diabetes but enjoys  managing  medical complexity. Recently she is part of a team of Multi-Professional Educators with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub.

Outside of work she enjoys travel, hot yoga and getting involved with her daughters’ climate change ideas.
